6 wk Ultra Sound today. Doc has me worried.
Hey - hope everyone is having a beautiful day!
Our Ultra Sound went great. I'm exactly 6 weeks with an EDD of 6/8/10. Heard the heartbeat and it was so fast and strong. Amazing!!!! This is the happiest time of my life!
My OB is concerend about my Migraines being so bad - this last "episode" lasted almost 7 full days with no relief from Fiorcet or Percocet / Phenergan combo.
He's going to refer me to a "pregnancy friendly" Neurologist but in the meantime wants me to increase my Folic Acid and start taking a baby asprin daily. He mentioned "pre-eclampsia" (sp?) and the signs and warnings and although my blood pressure has not been an issue since I had WLS, it had gotten so bad my first pregnancy I was homebound for almost 2 months and induced 3 weeks early.
Anyone else have experience with this? Any thoughts or suggestions? What's the real deal with the extra folic acid and baby aspirin?
Thanks!
Cathie

Extra Folic is probably because you had weight loss surgery plus it can fend off neural tube defects and other issues. My doctor says the older you are when you become pregnant the more important it is to take extra folic. I am almost 32 so I am getting near to the Advance Maternal Age of 35+. I am sure it is just precautionary. My doc had me go on extra folic too. Also I had high blood pressure towards the end of my pregnancies and had to be on bed rest. I am always delivered early because of it.
Good Luck,

I'm currently on a double dose of folic acid, calicuim and I take a baby aspirin every day.
The baby aspirin is because my mom had pre eclampsia and hypertension and many other complications. Also because I have had a miscarriage in the past.
Good Luck.

Just this past week I had to go back on my blood pressure medicine (of course baby "friendly") and had to do pre-eclampsia blookwork and a 24 hour protein workup...yeah no fun. I had a headache for almost three days and they were concerned...So back on the blood pressure medicine I went and am feeling much better...

I take a prenatal with Folic Acid, but I also take a prescription strength supplement too. I had horrible BP issues prior to WLS (it was reasonably controlled with medicine)..But since WLS- even at the end of my pregnancy my BP has stayed on track...and I am heavier then I should be (gained some weight fighting depression after a m/c then got pregnant with the extra weight on****ep an eye on it- but honestly I think it was 112/68 the last time...and one time it went up to 124/74 or something like that...nothing compared to the 180/95...I remember telling my Dr that BP medication made me feel like a lazy slug- she said- that's because your body was living high alert because my heart was working so hard. I understand your concerns- but try not to worry too much but be mindful like he suggested.
I had 8 weeks straight of daily migraines that finally ended once I reached the 3rd trimester. They had nothing to do with pre-eclampsia. Headaches are just one symptom of pre-eclampsia.
I am prone to migraines anyway and my doctor said that with some woman they have this happen to them where the get worse when they are pregnant. Fiorcet is the only thing that gave me some relief - but it was only temporary and never got rid of the headache completely.
I think it would be great for you to see a neurologist. They may have the answer!
